Today's BWOTD is another common one:
"We just got the bog standard version"
'Bog Standard' = basic or bottom of the line
So if you used cars as a good example for this:
A Honda Civic base model would be bog standard and the Honda Civic with all the add ons would not be. But you can apply this to just about any appliance or electronic device, plus other stuff.
This has nothing to do with the use of bog for a toilet!

Hi Sarah, I've always thought it referred to a bog as in where you might find peat (not a loo). It's a good expression though, because with bog standard you don't expect any extras at all. Keeps things simple.
I usually say ........
"Hang on, I'm just gunner go to the bog for a slash"
Kinda throws folks around here.
